Shock wave treatment

Shockwave therapy is a modern and highly effective treatment option in rehabilitation medicine. The term shockwave refers to mechanical pressure pulses that expands as a wave in the body. It is a new non-invasive alternative for topical fat and cellulite reduction.

How does it work? Shockwave is an acoustic wave which carries high energy to painful/inflammatory spots with subacute, sub chronic and chronic conditions. The energy promotes regeneration processes of the soft tissues. Shockwaves are characterized by jump change in pressure, high amplitude and non-periodicity (Rinella L, Marano F, Berta L, Bosco O, Fraccalvieri M, Fortunati N, Frairia R, Catalano MG. Extracorporeal shock waves modulate myofibroblast differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells. Wound Repair Regen. 2016 Mar;24(2):275-86).

Which areas can be treated? The most common conditions that can be treated by Shockwave Therapy are:

  • Topical fat reduction
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Breast capsule contraction repair
(Planas J, Cervelli V, Planas G. Five-year experience on ultrasonic treatment of breast contractures. Aesthetic Plast Surg. 2001 Mar-Apr;25(2):89-93).
  • Tennis Elbow – Painful inflammation of the tendon attachment on the lateral elbow
  • Shoulder Pain – Painful limitation of shoulder movement
  • Golfer’s Elbow – Painful inflammation of the tendon attachment on the medial elbow
  • Patella Tip Syndrome – Inflammation of the point of attachment of the patellar ligament
  • Shin Splints – Inflammation of the tibial edge due to excessive strain
  • Achilles Tendonitis – Painful irritation of the Achilles tendon
  • Painful Heel / Plantar Fasciitis – Painful, mostly chronic inflammation of the heel
